Acoustic stretch ceilings for funeral homes
In an environment where saying goodbye is central, peace and serenity are essential. For Funeral Home Van de Velde in Lievegem, Kanvas was entrusted with optimizing the entire acoustic experience. By combining aesthetics with advanced sound absorption, we created a space where conversations remain intimate and disturbing echoes are a thing of the past.
Optimal acoustics in high-ceiling spaces
High ceilings often provide a stately appearance but also bring acoustic challenges, such as long reverberation times. For the central areas of the funeral home, choosing an acoustic stretch ceiling was a deliberate strategic decision.
Our Soft Sound stretch ceilings have a tested Alpha value of 0.5. This means that reverberation is significantly reduced, directly contributing to a calm atmosphere and better speech intelligibility during services. A white ceiling was chosen here to give the space a open, light, and airy character.
A serene farewell in the ceremony hall
For the auditorium, where the funeral ceremony actually takes place, a different approach was required. Here, we opted for a black acoustic stretch ceiling. The dark color creates a secure and intimate atmosphere, perfectly fitting the serene nature of the ceremony.
Subtle LED lines and indirect lighting are seamlessly integrated into this black ceiling. This provides sufficient light without disturbing the modest atmosphere.
Harmony between design and technology
For this project, we worked closely with Architect Hulpia to merge technical requirements with interior design. The high-quality lighting from Delta Light acts as an eye-catcher, while the stretch ceiling technology does its work almost invisibly.
The benefits of this project at a glance:
- Sound absorption: an Alpha value of 0.5 ensures serene acoustics.
- Seamless finish: large surfaces without visible seams.
- Integrated technology: lighting and ventilation subtly incorporated.
- Customization: a combination of white (openness) and black (intimacy).
