Acoustic stretch ceilings
The acoustic stretch ceiling by Kanvas features a micro-perforated fabric that absorbs sound waves instead of reflecting them. The micro-perforations are barely visible to the naked eye. The result is a completely sleek, seamless ceiling that simultaneously functions acoustically.
We offer two versions: SoftSound (fabric only, Alpha 0.5) and SoftSound Pro (fabric + polyester acoustic mats, Alpha 0.85). Both systems are available in white (RAL 9016), off-white (RAL 9010), and black (RAL 9005), with custom printing options available.
- Alpha value 0.5 (SoftSound) or 0.85 (SoftSound Pro) – acoustically tested
- Invisible micro-perforations – sleek, matte appearance identical to a standard ceiling
- Minimal profile depth: barely 4.5 cm (SoftSound) or 6.5 cm (SoftSound Pro) relative to the existing structure
- Seamless delivery up to 5.10 m wide – coupling technique available for wider spaces
- Moisture-resistant and antibacterial – also suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, and indoor swimming pools
- 10-year warranty on every installed system
- 6% VAT for renovations of homes older than 10 years
Two variants: SoftSound & SoftSound Pro
SoftSound - Alpha 0.5
The SoftSound fabric is a micro-perforated polyester canvas used as a standalone system. Thousands of microscopically small holes absorb sound waves that would otherwise reflect off the ceiling. This results in an Alpha value of 0.5: 50% of all sound waves are trapped.
The fabric requires an installation depth of just 4.5 cm—less than half of a traditional suspended ceiling. This is ideal for renovation projects where maximizing clearance height is crucial.
- Alpha value: 0.5 (acoustically tested)
- Installation depth: 4.5 cm relative to the existing structure
- Seamless width: up to 5.10 m
- Colors: RAL 9016 white, RAL 9010 off-white, RAL 9005 black + custom printing available
- Integration: Lighting and technical utilities seamlessly integrated
SoftSound Pro - Alpha 0.85
SoftSound Pro combines the same micro-perforated fabric with polyester acoustic absorption mats placed above the ceiling. These mats trap the sound waves that penetrate through the micro-perforations. The result: Alpha 0.85—the upper limit of what can practically be achieved with a ceiling.
Pro is the definitive choice for spaces with high ceilings, large surface areas, or severe reverberation issues: restaurants, funeral homes, theaters, indoor swimming pools, and open-plan residential designs with extensive glazing.
- Alpha value: 0.85 (acoustically tested)
- Installation depth: 6.5 cm relative to the existing structure
- Acoustic mats: made of polyester — moisture-resistant
- Seamless width: up to 5.10 m
- Colors: RAL 9016 white, RAL 9010 off-white, RAL 9005 black + custom printing available
- Integration: Lighting and technical utilities seamlessly integrated
How it works: 4 steps
1. Microscopically small holes, invisible to the eye
The SoftSound fabric features thousands of microscopically small perforations that are barely visible to the naked eye. From a normal viewing distance, the ceiling looks perfectly sleek and smooth, identical to a standard Prime stretch ceiling.
2. Sound waves are trapped, not reflected
When sound waves hit the fabric, they pass through the micro-perforations into the space above the ceiling. There, they are converted into heat through friction instead of being reflected back into the room. The result? Less reverberation, fewer echoes, and more tranquility.
3. Pro version: acoustic mats for maximum dampening
With SoftSound Pro, polyester acoustic mats are installed in the space above the fabric. These mats further absorb the sound waves that have passed through the perforations. The result? An Alpha value of 0.85 - the upper limit of what is practically achievable with a ceiling.
4. What does the Alpha value mean in practice?
The Alpha value (sound absorption coefficient) ranges from 0 (completely reflective, like glass or concrete) to 1 (completely absorbing). An Alpha value of 0.5 means that 50% of the sound waves are absorbed, resulting in a noticeably reduced reverberation and enhanced conversational comfort. An Alpha value of 0.85 equals 85% absorption, providing a significantly reduced reverberation, even in large or high-ceilinged spaces.
6 reasons to choose an acoustic stretch ceiling
1. Reverberation and echo disappear - noticable, not visible
Hard surfaces—concrete, glass, tiles—reflect sound. An acoustic stretch ceiling absorbs these sound waves through thousands of microscopic perforations. The difference is clear from the very first conversation after installation: less echo, better speech intelligibility, and a calmer ambiance. Meanwhile, the ceiling maintains a clean, smooth aesthetic.
2. Invisible perforations - aesthetically identical to a standard ceiling
The micro-perforations are so small that they are completely invisible from a normal viewing distance. A SoftSound ceiling looks exactly like the Prime ceiling: matte, seamless, and perfectly flat. There is no visual compromise—no visible grids, panels, or seams.
3. Alpha 0.5 or 0.85 — tailored to your space
Kanvas offers two dampening levels. SoftSound (Alpha 0.5) is sufficient for homes, smaller offices, and restaurants. SoftSound Pro (Alpha 0.85) is the go-to choice for spaces with severe echo issues: high ceilings, large areas, funeral homes, and theaters. We calculate exactly which level fits your project.
4. Minimal loss of ceiling height: 4.5 or 6.5 cm
SoftSound requires an installation depth of just 4.5 cm, while SoftSound Pro needs 6.5 cm. By comparison, a traditional acoustic suspended grid ceiling requires an average of 15 to 30 cm. Both Kanvas systems preserve maximum clearance height, which is crucial for renovations.
5. Moisture-resistant and antibacterial - even for wet areas
The polyester fabric comes with an antistatic and antibacterial treatment as standard. The acoustic mats in the SoftSound Pro version are also made of polyester and are completely moisture-resistant. Consequently, both systems can be installed without issue in bathrooms, kitchens, indoor pools, saunas, and wellness areas.
6. Seamlessly integrated lighting and technical utilities
Lighting, ventilation, smoke detectors, and speakers can all be seamlessly integrated using carefully prepared custom adapters. Kanvas designs a detailed lighting plan for every project and supplies and installs fixtures as an official dealer for Wever & Ducré, Delta Light, and Modular.
Color selection
Both SoftSound and SoftSound Pro are available in three standard colors, each with its own character and application. Printing in any other RAL color or custom graphic is possible via dye-sublimation printing.
- Traffic White (RAL 9016): Fresh and spacious. The most popular choice for offices, funeral homes, and professional environments. It delivers an open, airy feel.
- Off-White (RAL 9010): Warm and natural. Pairs beautifully with wood, brick, and natural materials. A classic choice for living spaces and renovation projects.
- Jet Black (RAL 9005): Dramatic and atmospheric. Popular in restaurants, bars, auditoriums, and theater halls. It creates a cozy, intimate atmosphere.
- Custom Printing: Any RAL color or image can be applied to the acoustic fabric via dye-sublimation printing. The acoustic properties remain fully intact.
Applications
Thanks to the two dampening levels (Alpha 0.5 and 0.85) and the system's moisture resistance, the applications for an acoustic stretch ceiling are virtually endless.
- Open-plan homes or lofts: Atriums and open living areas with large windows create echo between floors. SoftSound Pro brings reverberation down to a comfortable level. SoftSound is sufficient for standard residential rooms.
- Open-plan offices: Noise pollution is the number one complaint in open office environments. An acoustic stretch ceiling absorbs ambient noise, improving focus and speech clarity during meetings.
- Restaurants & hospitality: A busy restaurant with hard floors and walls can become noisy and chaotic. SoftSound Pro transforms the acoustics into an atmospheric, pleasant environment.
- Funeral homes & ceremonial spaces: High ceilings, expansive surface areas, and the need for tranquility and clear speech make SoftSound Pro the obvious choice here.
- Theaters & cultural halls: Large venues with high ceilings require maximum sound absorption. SoftSound Pro is the industry standard for these environments.
- Indoor swimming pools & wellness areas: Water, tiles, and high ceilings form the perfect storm for acoustic misery. The polyester fabric and the mats of SoftSound Pro are completely moisture-resistant.
